Clubhouse Conversations: Lowercase Bags

One of the things I love most about Green Office is finding people and brands who see golf the way we do — as more than a game, but as a vehicle for connection, creativity, and community.

I first met Zach, founder of Lowercase Bags, at the 2024 PGA Show in Orlando. Wear it as a backpack or as a bike attachment, the design immediately caught my eye — simple, modern, and intentional. I was so impressed that I joined their Kickstarter right on the floor and ordered six bags on the spot.

When my shipment arrived, I even did an unboxing — because these bags aren’t just gear, they’re a statement. Lowercase blends function, style, and the spirit of golf in a way that clicked right away with what I’m building at Green Office.

As a proud Decatur resident, I also knew how well these bags would be received locally. Our city has a strong cycling culture, and the clean, minimalist style of Lowercase mirrors the same energy cyclists have embraced for years. We like gear that looks good, works hard, and reflects the lifestyle we live on and off the course.

I instantly fell in love with the design of the bag at the 2024 PGA Show in Orlando, FL.

That’s why it was so special when Zach came to Green Office recently to showcase bag’s style and versatility with one of our members, Connor Allen. Seeing it in use — carried on a one wheel — was the perfect full-circle moment.

Now, I’m proud to say Lowercase Bags are available for purchase directly at Green Office. You can test them, feel them, and take one home knowing you’re carrying something that represents golf’s future.

After his visit to Green Office, I asked Zach to share more about the story behind Lowercase, the inspiration for the bag, and what he hopes golfers feel when they carry it. Here’s what he had to say:

CM: Can you share the story behind Lowercase — where the idea came from and what inspired you to start the brand?
Zach: The idea for Lowercase started in a really simple, personal way. My childhood friend Aaron and I — we’ve known each other since kindergarten — wanted to ride our bikes to the golf course, but there wasn’t a safe or practical way to carry golf clubs. So, we took a basic pannier bag and modified it to hold clubs securely. That first prototype sparked something bigger…

Once we saw the potential, our curiosity took over. We went to the PGA Show a year before launching — not just to explore, but to meet suppliers, understand the market, and validate that this idea could be real. From there, we refined and tested until we landed on the product you see today.

For us, Lowercase is also about friendship and collaboration — we’d always dreamed of building something together, and this just happened to be the perfect idea to bring to life.

CM: Why the name Lowercase? What does it represent to you and the golf community?
Zach: It’s the golf bag to help lower your score!

Functionally, we built features that support getting better, and an easier golf experience: a phone pocket to record your swing, focus on less clubs at a time at the range or on course, and even carve out time during your workday to practice (with a laptop pocket as well).

But lowercase is also about mindset. Our bag is made for micro-mobility — biking, scootering, however you want to get there. That freedom to skip the car, clear your head, and show up at the course feeling present is a huge part of the experience. Our community embraces independence and balance — golfing on their own terms, living their best lives, and setting themselves up for success both on and off the course.

CM: What makes the Lowercase bag different from a traditional golf bag?
Zach: Everything!

There’s nothing else like it on the market: no true golf backpack, no pannier bag for clubs, and certainly nothing that combines both. Traditional bags leave club heads exposed, but we flipped that thinking — our design prioritizes and protects your clubs at all costs.

We also thought deeply about the golfer’s body. The bag features ultra-padded backpack straps and an ergonomic build to protect your spine and shoulders. Our goal is to keep people playing comfortably for as long as possible — golf is a lifetime sport, and your body should be cared for like your game.

Inside, we completely reimagined the layout. Lowercase is modular — no other golf bag lets you customize the interior each time you play. Our Velcro-padded dividers let you focus on a smaller, intentional set of clubs — around eight or so — so you can practice smarter and spend more time with each club. That intentionality carries over when you switch back to your cart bag; your game improves because your practice was purposeful.

And then we added thoughtful, modern touches you won’t find anywhere else — like a laptop pocket. Today’s golfers aren’t always heading straight from home; they’re balancing work and play, and we wanted a bag that fits that lifestyle.

Lowercase isn’t just a bag; it’s a rethink of what a golf bag should be for the modern, mobile golfer.

CM: How did you balance function with style in your design process?
Zach: For us, it was about getting the balance just right — probably 60% function and 40% style. We started with performance first because we wanted to create the most functional golf bag on the market. Every feature had to solve a real problem for golfers — from club protection to mobility to organization.

But we also knew this couldn’t just work well; it had to look and feel right. We were inspired by brands like Herschel — companies that honor heritage while meeting modern consumer needs. That mix of timeless style with practical updates guided our design choices.

The result is a bag that’s highly technical and built for the way golfers play today, but also clean and minimal enough to look good anywhere — on your bike, at the range, or heading into the office before a round.

CM: What details in the bag are you most proud of that golfers might overlook at first glance?
Zach: One of my favorite details — and maybe the most overlooked — is the pannier system. Being able to clip your golf bag to a bike rack and ride freely with your clubs almost feels like cheating. In New York City, people literally stop me to ask if it’s a custom setup.

I’m also proud of the little things that make the experience smoother. For example, the tee slots right above the side pockets — it’s such a simple detail, but it makes grabbing a ball and tee effortless compared to digging through zippered or magnetic pockets. The dedicated phone pocket is another favorite; it’s perfect for swing analysis or content creation without juggling your gear.

And then there’s something subtle but powerful — you can lay a Lowercase bag right on the green. Traditional bags don’t sit close to you like that, but ours keeps everything accessible and comfortable, even mid-round.

Honestly, I’ve spent so much time with this bag that I notice how it just disappears on your back — the weight distribution and comfort are incredible. You don’t even notice you’re carrying golf clubs until you look in the mirror. All those little decisions add up to an experience golfers might not fully appreciate until they use it.

CM: If you could describe the experience you want golfers to feel when carrying a Lowercase bag in just three words, what would they be?Zach: Smarter, Bold, and Functional!

Golf is evolving, and so is the culture that surrounds it. Lowercase shows us that a golf bag can be more than just equipment — it can reflect who we are, how we move, and the communities we belong to. Seeing Zach share the bag’s versatility here at Green Office with one of our own members made it clear: this isn’t just a product, it’s part of the future of the game.

We’re proud to spotlight partners like Lowercase, and even prouder to make their bags available right here at Green Office for Greenies who want to carry something that looks good, works hard, and tells a story of where golf is headed.
